One-on-One Mentorship 

Recent graduates or those new to primary care medicine will be matched with experienced and engaged doctors—with dedicated time focused on the mentee’s areas of interest, and professional support provided by the hospital team. Mentors will remain with mentees throughout the entire program and beyond to encourage lifelong mentorship relationships within the VCA Canada family of doctors.

90-Day Personalized Structured Mentorship Program—Plus Ongoing Support

  • Mentees will enjoy one-on-one mentoring at the beginning of the program, then will develop more autonomy over time, with the input of their mentors. The program is adapted to each mentee’s needs and clinical skill development. 
  • Mentees will spend the initial time following a structured onboarding program, shadowing and learning about VCA Canada’s electronic medical record system, VCA Canada policies and programs, benefits, and the flow of the home hospital.
  • All surgical and dental procedures will be performed under direct supervision of the mentoring doctor.
  • Direct feedback from all participants will be encouraged, with emphasis on how to improve the experience on an
  • ongoing basis.

Interactive and Collaborative Learning Environments

  • Mentees will enjoy interaction with other mentees in the program across various regions. Opportunities for collaboration with different mentors, potentially in other VCA Canada hospitals, will ensure exposure to diverse styles of medicine from doctors with a wide variety of medical experience.
  • There is potential for targeted mentoring with a specialist available in certain regions.

Comprehensive Educational Resources in our e-University

  • Mentees will have unlimited access to cutting edge information in the field of clinical medicine, including topics covering dental radiography and local anesthesia, CPR, anesthesia and so much more. 
  • Invaluable non-clinical topics will be covered such as client communication, team-building, leadership skills, financial knowledge, plus topics addressing wellness and work/life balance.

Continued Learning and Professional Growth

  • Extensive, leading-edge continuing education opportunitues and real-life work experience.
  • An annual CE allowance is available to VCA Canada doctors.
  • Promotion of career paths into leadership positions, such as medical director, along with other areas of leadership such as business operations, marketing, recruiting, and mentorship are encouraged and supported.
